Speaker: Pastor Anthony Orzo

Primary Passages: John 4:23-24, Galatians 5:22-25

Cross Referenced Passages: Nehemiah 12:43, John 16:8, John 10:10.

Sermon Questions:

1. Take a minute to discuss the definition of Worship as defined by Jesus’ use of the word in John Chapter 4. What stands out to you about it? What are some of the potential challenges of trying to worship God like this in your everyday life?

Worship- Is the act of bowing down in adoration before God because you genuinely see Him as greater than yourself. It is a posture of the heart that compels you to give your ultimate love and affection to God by living your life in light of His truth because He is worthy of it.

2. How do you understand what, “Living in the Spirit is?” Based on the talk from Galatians 5:22-25, compare and contrast definitions or experiences.

3. Generally speaking, “Living in the Spirit” is the evidence that you are alive in Jesus. One of the marks of that life is when you begin to embody the “Fruit” of the Spirit in your life. Can you share with the group a way, or ways you feel God has changed you over the years to become more like Jesus.

4. In the talk, Pastor Anthony compared the way the Holy Spirit works in our lives spiritually—to the way a physician works in our lives physically. In both instances they “cross-examine” the lives of those they care for to bring to light the reality of their situation. What do you think of this comparison? Take some time to discuss this. It is important to do so for the last question.

5. In the talk, we learned the Holy Spirit cross-examines our lives in 3 main ways. Please read through these three ways below. Discuss how you have experienced the work of the Holy Spirit in these areas and be honest with your group if you are not experiencing the cross-examination of the Holy Spirit in these areas. Pay particular attention to Question # 3 and its sub-questions.

1. You’ll know you’re being cross-examined by the Holy Spirit when you start to feel convicted for the sin of your unbelief. In other words, He works to help the unbeliever believe, and the Christian to believe when they doubt the promises of God.

2. You’ll know you’re being cross-examined by the HS when you start to feel convicted of the sin of your righteousness. In other words, He works to help us understand we are loved by God because of Christ’s righteousness not our own self-righteousness.

3. You’ll know you’re being cross-examined by the HS when you consistently try to keep in step with the will and ways of Jesus. This is evidenced by how you answer the questions below:

a. Do you let the HS influence how you make life decisions in you everyday life and in light of Jesus’ truth?

b. Do you make it a point to get to know the HS through the Scriptures and the healthy experiences of other trusted believers?

c. Lastly, Do you surrender to the HS when He does lead you? Because He will lead you if you are willing to be led.
